The Mill Building provided the setting for this week’s practical members’ evening, after our usual room became unavailable. Many thanks to Grace for arranging the alternative venue for us.
Fourteen members came along, including three new members, and we were also delighted to welcome another visitor who joined the club on the night.
Members brought a variety of subjects to photograph for macro and still-life work, but there was no shortage of inspiration already in the building. With plenty of unusual details and objects around the room, everyone had lots to explore with their cameras.
There was, of course, plenty of conversation along the way — and after the first round of photography, coffee and biscuits provided some essential refuelling before we started again.
One of the highlights of the evening was being given access to the weaver and spinning room on the first floor. This proved far too good a photographic opportunity to miss. Looms, spinning wheels, woven cloth, brightly coloured cones of yarn and the tools of the trade offered a wealth of textures, shapes and details to photograph.
It made for a very interesting and varied evening, with plenty of scope for trying something different and sharing ideas with other members.
Next week we move online for David Gilliver’s Zoom talk, “Miniature World and Little People”. It may well give us some ideas for another practical evening in the future.
